That’s what Linda has been most of her life. She has been interested in art, but not focused on one media. She now spends much of her time creating with fused glass but still enjoys painting, carving gourds, and working with clay.

You’re invited to join us for a fun-filled day of exploring the fascinating prehistory of the lower Illinois River valley region. Guests will be able to see and participate in a variety of archeology-related activities, including: flintknapping demonstration, artifact identification, exhibits by area archeological & historical societies, kids’ activity area (hands-on activities), tour of a 2000-year-old excavation site, archeological sample processing, and a special artifact exhibit at the CAA Visitor’s Center & Museum.

It's that time of year again. Time for that distinct smell of funnel cakes in the air, long lines in front of the ticket booth and tents showcasing the best local cows and pigs. There's something special about a good old-fashioned county fair. The Calhoun County is complete with carnival rides, live animal shows, musical entertainment, truck pulls, demolition derby, and lots of food. This event on the banks of the Illinois River depicts the life and times of the early Calhoun settlers. Civil War re-enactment, carriage rides, fiddle contest, mountain-man activities, apple-butter making and other period demonstrations, food, crafts, and live entertainment.

QUILT & CHURCH TOUR
Calhoun County, IL

Enjoy a beautiful fall day in scenic Calhoun County and see over 200 quilts, old to new, more hand stitched than machine stitched, that are displayed in the county's historic churches. Quilts can be viewed in the following churches: St. Matthew Lutheran Church and Hall in Brussels, Zion Lutheran Church in Batchtown, the Presbyterian Church and Hall in Hardin, and the Presbyterian Church in Kampsville.

Tickets are $8 in advance; $12 at the door.

MAPLE SYRUP MAKING

McCully Heritage Project, south of Kampsville, Illinois off of Highway 100
The McCully Heritage Project will be tapping maple trees and making maple syrup beginning in February through mid-March. Once the sap starts flowing, they will be cooking every 2nd or 3rd day, over an open campfire, just outside the McCully Heritage Project pavilion. Scheduling of this event is completely weather dependent. Check the MHP homepage at www.mccullyheritage.org or “like” them on Facebook for updates on the schedule or to find out when the sap is cooking. The public is invited to participate, and to learn about how trees are tapped and sap is collected and turned into maple syrup.

Bring the family out to the refuge to learn which frogs sing in the nightly spring chorus. “Sounds of Spring,” a ranger-led walk highlighting spring frog calls beginning at the refuge visitor center. Participants should bring bug spray and a flashlight.
