CAMP DUBOIS RENDEZVOUS

Camp Dubois, Route 143 and Route 3
Celebrate the historical period between 1700 and 1840. See demonstrators in period clothing, a black powder shoot, a "hawk" throw, fire starting with flint and steel contests, children's and women's activities, period food sales, crafts, vendor sales of period items, contests, and much more. Period costumes encouraged for campers, crafters, and other participants. Illustrations of Lewis & Clark's epic journey are located on the trail around the lake.

LEWIS & CLARK DEPARTURE DAYS

Lewis & Clark State Historic Site, New Poag Road and IL-3
Come and commemorate the departure of the Lewis and Clark expedition from Camp River Dubois. View life as it was in 1803-1804 as the men prepared for their departure. Watch re-enactors portray life as members of the Corps of Discovery preparing for their epic trip west. On the grounds will be craft exhibitors demonstrating early American skills, woodworking, candle making, marching drills, cooking, and shooting demonstrations.

GREAT RIVERS FESTIVAL

Audubon Center at Riverlands, Riverlands Migratory Bird Sanctuary

Celebrate the confluence of the three major rivers - the Mississippi, Missouri and Illinois - during the Great Rivers Festival at the National Great Rivers Museum and the Audubon Center at Riverlands. You will have a chance to tour a working towboat and barge. There will also be children's activities, food vendors, live entertainment including animal and reptile shows, living history tours and more.

HUMMINGBIRD FESTIVAL

BETHALTO HOMECOMING

The annual Bethalto Homecoming tradition began as a way to honor the soldiers returning from World War I. A maple tree was planted in the area for every soldier who returned from the war, and a picnic was held for residents to congregate and socialize. Over the years, the celebration of servicemen returning from duty has evolved into a weekend-long event for local residents and visitors. Today the festivities encompass live entertainment, games, food, carnival rides, and fun for the whole family. The annual Homecoming parade will begin at 10 am on Monday at Bethalto East Elementary School and ends at the Park.
Free, some activities charge a fee.
The event is organized by the Bethalto Fire Department (618-377-6421) and the Bethalto American Legion (618-377-3089). To confirm the dates visit the Village of Bethalto website.

This event celebrates the pre-1840's fur trade era with reenactors camping at a replica of Lewis and Clark's 1803-1804 winter encampment in teepees and period tents. Witness the arrival of the Lewis and Clark Expedition as reenactors arrive at the mouth of the River Dubois to establish their 1803-04 Winter Encampment. Visitors can experience camp life in early Frontier Illinois, and watch demonstrations of period crafts and skills.

VICTORIAN CHRISTMAS WALK

Stroll candlelit streets, climb aboard a horse-drawn carriage and experience the camaraderie of life in a small town Christmas village. Take in the sights and sounds of bell choirs and strolling musicians that add to the Victorian flair. Visit Father Christmas and enjoy wassail, roasted chestnuts, and many other holiday treats. There will be a Christmas concert performed by Bethalto Spirit Choir and Orchestra at 3 pm at First Baptist Church on Moreland Road.

CHAINSAW ART

Watch the Itchy Brothers Chainsaw Art carve wooden sculptures with their tools to send a salute to the Bald Eagle. See the pair carve these pieces live. The men of Itchy Brothers Chainsaw have over 30 years of combined experience. They start their demonstration with larger chainsaws to carve away the spare wood. Then, the pair use feature saws and sanders to get the full detail through.

Get up close and personal with a Live American Bald Eagle from the World Bird Sanctuary. Founded in 1977, the World Bird Sanctuary is 305 acres of Missouri hardwood forest. The refuge is home to various birds of prey, including falcons and vultures. The mission of the sanctuary is to “preserve the earth’s biological diversity and the secure the future of threatened bird species in their natural environments.” They achieve this through education, propagation, field studies and rehabilitation.

Join the Audubon Center staff and volunteers for a birding trip in search of birds. The trip will leave from the Center at 8 am and take a short drive to a few locations in the Sanctuary. Please dress for the weather and bring a bottle of water for the walk. If you have binoculars, be sure to bring them along too. This walk is a family friendly event suitable for beginners as well as seasoned birders.
