Although these routes are longer they avoid the stop and go traffic of Alton and Godfrey and reward the traveler with some spectacular scenery. Once you get to downtown Alton take Illinois Route 100 north to the river town of Grafton. This stretch of Route 100 parallels the limestone bluffs on the banks of the Mississippi River and is characterized by roadside wildflowers in the warmer seasons, brilliant fall foliage, and Bald Eagles in the winter.
