variety of events that take place in the Meeting of the
Great Rivers Scenic Byway Area. Changes are made when we
gather more information or when we learn of an event. If you

MAPLE SYRUP MAKING

McCully Heritage Project,
south of Kampsville, Illinois off of Highway 100
The
McCully Heritage Project will be tapping maple trees and making maple syrup
beginning in February through mid-March. Once the sap starts flowing, they
will be cooking every 2nd or 3rd day, over an open campfire, just outside
the McCully Heritage Project pavilion. Scheduling of this event is
completely weather dependent. Check the MHP homepage at

“like” us on Facebook for updates on the schedule or to find out when the
sap is cooking. The public is invited to participate, and to learn about how
trees are tapped and sap is collected and turned into maple syrup.

SIUE ANTIQUES SHOW

This
annual Antique Show and Sale feature over 80 antique dealers who display and
sell furniture, china, glass, dolls, jewelry, silver, books, primitives,
pottery, tools, clocks, porcelain, paper items, quilts, linens and country
items. The event benefits the SIUE Lovejoy Library.

Material Attraction: Diverse Reactions is a curated
invitational ceramics exhibition, featuring regional clay artists from the
Southern Illinois metro-east and St. Louis area. The invited artists'
techniques, materials, scale and interpretations represent diverse
approaches to the material. Included in the exhibition will be mixed media
works, figurative and abstract sculpture, functional pots and tile pieces.

GARRISON WEEKEND

Lewis & Clark State Historic
Site
Come
and watch on Saturday as the Detachment participates in living history at this replica winter
camp and portrays early 19th century army life. On Sunday visitors can
observe what it was like for frontier women as they
cook over an open fire, sew their family's
garments, make candles at the early 1800s American Bottom Cabin.

Observe the spring equinox sunrise and learn of the discovery, form and
function of an ancient post circle called Woodhenge that was used as a
solar calendar by the Cahokians. No ceremony or ritual is presented.
Woodhenge is located 1/2 mile west of Monks Mound and the main entrance to
the site.

THE BLUFFS RUN

Registration begins at 7 am; run begins at 8 am; walk begins at 8:15 am
3rd & Belle Streets
This annual event features a 5-mile run up and
down the hilly and scenic Streets of Alton’s historic Christian Hill
district and a 2-mile competitive walk to Riverview Park and back.
Participants receive a T-shirt and a goody bag provided by area vendors.
Prizes and awards to various classes.
