Rock Springs Park on College Avenue
Drive through Rock Springs Park to see more 2.5 million lights adorning trees and lighting displays throughout the park. Visitors are sure to be captivated by the holiday spirit.
Admission is $7 for cars and small vans or $1 per person for vehicles holding 10 or more persons.

Audubon Center at Riverlands, Riverlands Migratory Bird Sanctuary
"Working Wildfowl: Decoys, Carvings, and the Waterfowl Tradition" Decoy Show is an original exhibit showcasing wildfowl decoys and duck calls. Bird decoys, which were first fashioned by Native American hunter-artists over 1000 years ago, are the only major folk art form to originate in North America. The decoy is a symbol of all that binds us together.  The sportsman, the birdwatcher, the conservationist, and the wildlife biologist all are equally fascinated by the wonders of wildlife on this great river Flyway.

This annual fair is sponsored by the Morris University Center Print and Design Shop and features handmade crafts by local artisans and original works by many artists around the area. Items available for purchase include many types of handmade goods including ceramics, wood, weaving, fiber, metal and glass, among others. Many of these articles are suitable for holiday gifts.

Visit beautiful Glazebrook Park as it is lit up with lights to celebrate the season. Get your picture taken with Santa Claus, roast chestnuts and marshmallows on an open fire, carriage rides and free hot cocoa and treats. In honor of the giving season, attendees are asked that non-perishables food items are brought for donation to the Crisis Food Center.

Be one of the thousands of runners and walkers who hit the nation’s pavements, pathways and parks this winter to fight arthritis, the nation’s most common cause of disability. Jingle Bell Run/Walk® is a fun and festive way to kick off your holidays by helping others! Wear a holiday themed costume. Tie jingle bells to your shoelaces. Run or walk a 5 k, 1 mile walk, or a 1/2 mile kid run route by yourself or with team members and celebrate the season by giving. Includes an all-you-can-eat pancake breakfast after the run/walk.

The house tour is from 12 pm to 4 pm. The tickets include touring historic homes, the village museum, churches, bed and breakfasts and riding in a horse drawn carriage or decorated wagon with a team of horses. Lunch will be available for purchase for $11 at Farley’s Music Hall between 11:30 pm and 4:30 pm (or until sold out) catered by My Just Desserts.
Advance admission is $15 and is available online or at the Alton Visitor’s Center or at either B&B in Elsah. Advance tickets are recommended.

Sponsored by the Collinsville Main Street Community Association this event allows visitors to experience some of Collinsville’s finest festively decorated homes as residents have decked their halls and will open their doors for guests. Participants will begin the tour at one of Collinsville’s most notable historic landmark homes, the Blum House. The stately, two-story home was built by the internationally-known Blum Bell Factory founder J. Henry Blum circa 1906. Here participants will pick up their informational packet before embarking on the self-guided tour.

Celebrate the start of the holiday season in Grafton. Stop in the various businesses along Main Street and near the riverfront for special promotions, discounts, refreshments and entertainment. The Jerseyville High School choir will be caroling throughout the town. Visitors will also be able to tour the various B&Bs and guest houses in town, a perfect opportunity to check out the accommodations and purchase a gift certificate as a gift. The festivities will conclude with a Show Choir performance at the Grove Memorial Park Gazebo the town lights up!

Celtic Christmas II, with Celtica and the Clarkson School of Dance by the Great Rivers Choral Society will rekindle the flame in the hearth with music and song from the infinitely rich treasury of Ireland's cultural heritage. Imagine a wintry day in the Christmas season, where Irish and Scottish musicians regale locals and travelers alike with their playing. Caroling from the choir mixes with the instrumental riffs of the traditional musicians, and the warmth from their collaboration literally chases the cold winter away. This concert will bring together the worlds of classical and Celtic music.

Witness the arrival of the Lewis and Clark Expedition as reenactors arrive at the mouth of the River Dubois to establish their 1803-04 Winter Encampment. Join the members of the Corps in a military demonstration of 1803 U.S. Army Expedition. Visitors can experience camp life in early Frontier Illinois, and watch demonstrations of period crafts and skills.

Every third Thursday of the month The Nature Institute partners with Eddie Agha of Agha Designs Jewelry Studio and invites the public to a program of the TNI Astronomy Association. Participants will navigate the preserve with naturalist Eddie Agha to observe and record constellations. No telescopes are needed. Guests will also receive short, instructional lessons about activities and workshops associated with the program, and find out how to join the TNI Astronomy Association.

A Park naturalist will be presenting informative programs about bald eagles. Visitors will learn to distinguish between immature and mature eagles, what they eat, why they winter in the area and more. There will be a lecture and a short video presentation followed by an observational drive. Be sure to dress warmly and have a full tank of gas. Binoculars are highly recommended but not essential as the Park brings along a spotting scope.

Observe the winter equinox sunrise and learn of the discovery, form and function of an ancient post circle called Woodhenge that was used as a solar calendar by the Cahokians. No ceremony or ritual is presented. Woodhenge is located 1/2 mile west of Monks Mound and the main entrance to the site.

This walk is a family friendly event suitable for beginners as well as seasoned birders.
