The
Illinois Department of Transportation provides biking maps that that rate most
public roads in the state. The rating system takes into account 1) traffic
volume, including truck traffic, 2) lane widths, 3) width of paved shoulders and
4) road surface type and conditions. The above map shows the northwest area of
the Meeting
of the Great Rivers Scenic Byway Area where there is a predominance of roads
rated green (most suitable for biking) and yellow (caution advised.) |

information to plan an enjoyable trip that suits their experience level. These
ratings are subjective. If you have any comments or suggestions as to the grade

original map used was the ILLINOIS Official Bicycle Map: Southwestern
Illinois Map 8 which covers Calhoun, Greene, Jersey, Madison, Bond, St.
Clair, Washington, Monroe and Randolph counties. This map and other maps on
