St. Louis artist Jeff Sippel’s abstract prints that are extremely expressive in color and line are featured in “Action Reaction.” In “Letting go a breath I didn’t know I was holding” St. Louis artist Joe Chesla filled 2,920 plastic bags with a mixture of porcelain and algae and installed them directly on the Reiners Gallery windows allowing light and heat to influence the algae’s growth and affect the color and pattern of the installation. The Schmidt and Cox Galleries hosts New York City artist Jenny Boudreault’s “Awakenings,” a series of portraits of everyday people. Boudreault uses watercolor or oil paint on board, which often allows the wood grain to show through and provide texture and tone to the skin.

Learn the art of paper piecing at the annual Elsah Fall Quilt Retreat. Some quilts can look quite difficult, but they can be made easy through the technique of paper piecing. With Barb Marfell as your instructor, you will receive professional instruction, a supply list, two lunches, two suppers, snacks, a walking tour through the Village of Elsah, road trip to Crocker & Springer Pottery and a presentation by guest speaker, Hallye Bone.

2008 may be the beginning of a new tradition in Faust Park as the Tilles Fall Fine Arts Festival moves to the St. Louis Carousel area in Faust Park. The Historic Village will continue to feature demonstrations of blacksmithing, rope making, pottery firing and other crafts with historical significance, along with games and activities for children. All structures will be open for viewing. As an added bonus, just outside the village area, Juried Fine Arts and Crafts of a more modern nature will be featured along with the artists themselves. Kathy is an accomplished dye artist and specializes in color planning. Her desire is to help students express their own creativity. The class fee includes professional instruction, two lunches, one supper, and an evening house tour.

The Greater Augusta Chamber of Commerce hosts the Augusta Plein Air Event that has become one of the largest plein air events in the Midwest. In previous years over 100 artists from 6 states participated in this 10-day event. For the artists there will be a contest with prizes and an opportunity to sell their art. For the public this is an opportunity to chat with the artists and watch them work during a variety of special events. There will be an art sale and auction on Saturday, May 2nd.
