Enjoy an evening walk as a guide from the Nature Institute leads you through the Heartland Prairie at Gordon Moore Park. The park hosts nine species of native prairie grasses and 150 prairie wildflowers that are native to Madison County and surrounding Illinois counties. RIVERLANDS PADDLE FESTIVAL
West Alton, MO

Riverlands Migratory Bird Sanctuary, Riverlands Way shelter next to Ellis Bay, also known as Water Trail site 26-24
Visitors will be able to talk to members from the St. Louis Canoe and Kayak club plus many other paddling enthusiasts. All paddlers must be 14 years or older to paddle solo. Kids 11 and over can paddle solo with parent/guardian consent. Kids 10 and younger can paddle with parent/guardian in a tandem kayak or canoe.
$5 fee charged per person to cover the American Canoe Association insurance.

TOUR DE CURE BIKE RIDE

Longer rides start at 7 am with the shorter rides starting at 10 am
Join hundreds of cyclists in this fund raising event for the American Diabetes Association. Travel along the Great River Road, flat & moderately hilly country roads on routes of 16, 30, 50, and 100 miles crossing ferries and bridges. There will be support vehicles patrolling the routes and stocked rest stops every 9 to 12 miles. Following the ride all cyclists enjoy complimentary lunch, live music and free admission into Raging Rivers Water Park!

This annual event begins with the arrival of Santa and Mrs. Claus on the trolley at 6. The festivities including caroling, candy, cookies and hot cocoa will continue until 6:45 when tree is lit. Carols will fill the air throughout the evening provided by area groups including the Girl Scouts. The public is encouraged to help the less fortunate by bringing canned food donations to the event, which will be constructed into a giant “Castle of Cans.” From 5:30 - 7:30, free trolley transportation will be provided between Lincoln-Douglas Square and the Riverbender.com Community Center. The public is invited to the Center after the tree lighting to do crafts, visit with Santa & Mrs. Claus, warm up with refreshments, and engage in other activities during their holiday open house until 9.

"Masters of the Sky", an educational and informational program presented by the World Bird Sanctuary, features eagles, falcons, owls and other birds of prey. There will also be a free eagle display at noon and 2 pm for 30 minutes in the gallery.

The Alton Band & Orchestra Builders will host a spring Olde Alton Vendor & Craft Fair. There will be many booths of crafters selling their best wares. Chris Cakes Pancakes and sausage breakfast will be available ($5 in advance - $6 at door). All proceeds benefit the instrumental music program in the Alton School District.

CHALLENGE OF
THE BLUFFS RUN

3rd & Belle Streets
Are you up for the challenge? Sign-up for the annual 5-mile competitive run up to the top of the Mississippi River bluffs and back, or 2-mile walk up to Riverview Park and back on the 5-mile course. The race starts at the corner of Belle & 3rd Street and finishes at Belle & 4th Street. This beautiful route is hilly and scenic. Post-race refreshments & awards ceremony will be held at Mac's Time Out on Belle Street (near race finish line) immediately following the race. Awards will be given in each age category.
