"Working Wildfowl: Decoys, Carvings, and the Waterfowl Tradition" Decoy Show is an original exhibit showcasing wildfowl decoys and duck calls. Bird decoys, which were first fashioned by Native American hunter-artists over 1000 years ago, are the only major folk art form to originate in North America. The decoy is a symbol of all that binds us together.  The sportsman, the birdwatcher, the conservationist, and the wildlife biologist all are equally fascinated by the wonders of wildlife on this great river Flyway.

Then cross the river to see a rehabilitated raptor and learn how to spot bald eagles at the Audubon Center at Riverlands.

Visitors will be able to talk to members from the St. Louis Canoe and Kayak club plus many other paddling enthusiasts. All paddlers must be 14 years or older to paddle solo. Kids 11 and over can paddle solo with parent/guardian consent. Kids 10 and younger can paddle with parent/guardian in a tandem kayak or canoe.

The annual Alton Labor Day parade saluting organized labor, union members and supporters takes place in Upper Alton. The Greater Madison County Federation of Labor sponsors the event that begins from the Alton Middle School parking lot, then around Washington Plaza and ending at the school. A number of local union members and their families will be on hand, and a picnic for those members will follow at Gordon Moore Park. The Alton Labor Day parade, one of the state's oldest labor commemorations, is traditionally held the Saturday before Labor Day weekend so it doesnít conflict with a Labor Day parade in Granite City that is the next weekend.

National Cemetery, 600 Pearl Street
The public is invited to this beautiful cemetery as actors, standing by the graves of the residents they will portray, will greet passers-by in a living history tour being staged by the Alton YWCA in cooperation with the Alton Cemetery Board and the Alton Little Theater. The grounds are accessible to those with disabilities.
Tickets: $12 for adults, $6 for children 6 through 12, Prices subject to change. Group rates available.

Discussions about calls and other sporting collectibles that you are inviting you to bring in and share with everyone, should help us all to learn more about our decoy obsession.

Join the Audubon Center staff and volunteers for a birding trip in search of birds. The trip will leave from the Center at 8 am and take a short drive to a few locations in the Sanctuary. Please dress for the weather and bring a bottle of water for the walk. If you have binoculars, be sure to bring them along too. This walk is a family friendly event suitable for beginners as well as seasoned birders.

Eat, drink and be merry! Sample a variety of Downtown Alton's local flavors from your favorite downtown dining and drinking establishments. A wide variety of appetizers, entrees and desserts will be served, and entertainment will be provided. Please note that guests must be 21 or older, with a valid ID in order to board the Casino. All proceeds from the fundraiser will help Alton Main Street advance the organizationís goals to improve and enhance the downtown historic district.

Holiday shopping just got easier if you go to the Old Cathedral Bazaar at Sts. Peter & Paul Parish. More than 40 vendors will be on hand showcasing a wide variety of their wares. Breakfast and lunch will be served. Back by popular demand are the basket raffle, $1,000 raffle, Bake Shoppe, kettle corn, apple butter, and peanut brittle. There will also be a Children's Christmas area where children can shop for presents. Breakfast with Santa Claus will also be held.
