  The 7-mile stretch near the river communities of Grafton and Elsah along the upper portion of the Meeting of the Great Rivers Scenic Byway area is an area that bustles with activities for visitors throughout the year. Grafton and Elsah hold a variety of events in all seasons that range from historic tours and festivals on the riverbank to activities promoting fall foliage and the American Bald Eagle. Pere Marquette State Park, the largest in the state, hosts a variety of free programs focusing on the natural beauty and heritage of this region of Illinois. The Illinois Department of Natural Resources invites women to attend a weekend of adventurous outdoor activities.  You can try charting a course, calling a bird, shooting a bow, firing a shot, tying a fly, catching a fish, building a campfire and more.  Attendees enjoy the natural beauty of Illinois, companionship, exercise and skill building.  Program instructors provide a supportive, safe, nonthreatening and noncompetitive learning environment.  The program is open to all women age 18 or older
.
A fee of $170 per person includes instruction, program materials, use of demonstration equipment, seven meals and lodging. Pre-registration required.

CATFISH TOURNAMENT

Try to catch the biggest catfish during the River Rat Grafton Catfish Tournament. Rules include teams of 2 to 4 members with a 6 rod limit. Envisioned are   fathers and sons, mothers and daughters, grandpas and grandsons, best buddies, and of course the serious anglers having a great time on the water during the day. There will be food vendors and entertainment throughout both days. This should be a great time, even if you do not fish, to enjoy the hospitality and experience the hometown flavor and down-to-earth qualities of this real river town.

Participating boats will launch at 1 pm from the Yacht Club of St. Louis proceeding downstream or at Harbor Point  proceeding upstream in the main channel of the Mississippi River. About 2:15 p.m. the parade will arrive at Our Lady of the Rivers Shrine in Portage des Sioux, and end in Grafton.  The parade will be visible from the Great River Road.

Pere Marquette State Park, 14200 IL-100 (Great River Road), Park in the marina parking lot on the left (river side).
This ride starts at historic Pere Marquette State Park and traverses the stunning countryside of rural Jersey County on short, medium, and long routes over rolling terrain with some big hills. The ride-camp-ride format is new this year. You can ride on Saturday or Sunday or both, and for a fee, we’re adding the option to group camp in one of the best kept secrets in the region. Campers get Saturday dinner and Sunday continental breakfast.

TOWBOAT FESTIVAL

Grafton Riverfront
11 am - 4 pm each day
Experience "Life on the Mississippi River" and catch a rare glimpse inside the giant towboats that travel America's Great Rivers. Conditions permitting, there will be a boat docked on the riverfront at the Grafton Harbor on Water Street for tours from noon to 4 pm on both days. There will be excitement throughout the entire town as it gets on board with the Shiver Me Timbers Towboat Festival with a Citywide Treasure Hunt, Pirate Ship Rides, discounted Parasailing for those who come dressed as pirates, Hula-hoop Making Workshop, Pirate Parties, Grog and Grub Specials, and discounts by many of Grafton’s businesses.

PEACH FESTIVAL

Nothing pairs better than a warm, summer day and a ripe, juicy peach! This Peach Festival features local famers displaying some of those famous Calhoun Peaches handpicked that morning and still warm from the sunshine as well as other produce such as tomatoes and watermelons. Come on out to the beautiful Pere Marquette Lodge and join in on this afternoon of fun, festivities and peaches. There will also be live music, craft and art vendors, wine tasting, restaurant specials, an educational exhibit and historic Lodge tours.
