The Oak Leaf Artist Guild holds its 2008 Fall Art Show with are professional and amateur area artists displaying up to three of their original works in all mediums. Prizes will be awarded in various categories. The show is open to amateur and professional artists. All artists will be judged by category only.

CIVIL WAR ERA
REENACTMENT

"Occupation! A Community at War" reenacts the how the Civil War effected the lives of the every Missourian. In Missouri, the question of supporting the Union, or the newly formed Confederacy, was not as easily answered as in other areas of the country. From the beginning of the was, this conflict spilled over into the lives of everyone. Citizens of this quiet community first come to terms with having Union soldiers occupy their village. Visitors will have the chance to speak with men and women making difficult decisions and fearing the worst, yet having to go on with the daily activities needed for maintaining and sustaining life..

RIDE THE RIVERS
CENTURY BICYCLE RIDE

St. Charles, MO

Ameristar Casino St. Charles
Pre-registration is recommended for this Century Ride that includes flat to rolling hills with some big hills. This ride features some of the areas “greatest hits” – our majestic Great Rivers, two major universities, three parks, two ferry crossings, historic Route 66, five trails and the Gateway Arch.  Return to Trailhead Brewery for brews and food.

CAMPFIRE STORYTELLING
FESTIVAL

Come to Boonesfield Village for "Halloween: Ghosts of the Past," an evening of good old-fashioned fun. The flicker of candles and campfires highlight tours, music and tales designed to enchant. Marshmallows and cider will sweeten up the evening.

CELEBRATION OF LIGHTS

A tradition since 1991 the City of O'Fallon presents a drive-through dazzling holiday one mile display of over one million lights depicting holiday scenes. Each scene is designed and funded by local organizations, churches and businesses.

Cars $9, Vans $15, Buses $1 person Drive through; enjoy our walk-through night on December 8 or a Train Ride on Mondays by reservation (no vehicles).

CHRISTMAS WALK

Luminaries line the streets as you stroll through historic Augusta. The walk showcases shops, wineries, churches, and the brewery. Enjoy roasted chestnuts, a bonfire, music, the decor of the season and the spirit of Christmas.

Start the cycling season with an easy pedal on the flat terrain of the St. Charles floodplain between the Missouri and Mississippi Rivers. There are routes of various distances with the longer routes stopping at Portage des Sioux and the Marais Temps Clair Conservation Areas.

Selected location throughout the area
The Greater Augusta Chamber of Commerce hosts the Augusta Plein Air Event that has become one of the largest plein air events in the Midwest. In previous years over 100 artists from 6 states participated in this 10-day event. For the artists there will be a contest with prizes and an opportunity to sell their art. For the public this is an opportunity to chat with the artists and watch them work during a variety of special events. There will be an art sale and auction on Saturday, May 2nd.

GREAT RIVER RENDEZVOUS
Grafton, IL & West Alton, MO

Begins in Grafton and ends at the Riverlands Migratory Bird Sanctuary in West Alton, IL

Be a part of the first-ever canoe and kayak race on the Mississippi River. Rendezvous in Grafton where the race will begin at 10a.m. Then, race your way 20 miles down river to the end of the race at Ellis Bay in West Alton, MO. Clubs, shops and spectators are invited to attend. In addition to the race, there will social paddles, skills clinics, family paddles, food and music.

Participating boats will launch at 1 pm from the Yacht Club of St. Louis proceeding downstream or at Harbor Point  proceeding upstream in the main channel of the Mississippi River. About 2:15 p.m. the parade will arrive at Our Lady of the Rivers Shrine in Portage des Sioux, and end in Grafton.  The parade will be visible from the Great River Road.

HERON & EGRET HIKE

The staff will take participants on a 2 1/2-mile guided hike to view the herons and egrets feeding in the Marais Temps Clair Conservation Area. You may be able to see the young, who will have just left the nest, of these showiest of all wading birds. Spotting scopes will be provided by the staff
to help in learning how to identify these birds from a distance.

HARVEST FESTIVAL
