Several galleries in Sainte Genevieve are offering the opportunity to view the art works of Sainte Genevieve area and regional artists with a variety of art forms that will offer something for everyone. Other retail businesses will also participate in the event by being open during the same hours. Refreshments will be served at various locations and maps are available at each location designating which galleries and studios are open. In keeping with the Plein Air Painting event, plein air paintings will be featured at many galleries.

PLEIN AIR PAINTING

Following the European tradition of capturing the atmosphere of the outdoors, contemporary artists are invited to join the realms of the famous regionalist artists of the 1930s by painting outdoors in the scenic Sainte Genevieve area. Among the highlights: multiple paint outs & competitions, generous prizes, social events. An art show and sale will begin with a reception on October 3rd and run through October 5th.

HISTORY CONFERENCE

Attendees at the annual Sainte Genevieve History Conference will hear presentations on topics related to Sainte Genevieve history from the early Native American time period to the present day. Presentations are made by authors, college professors and students, and local historians. A reception will be held the previous evening and is including in the price of the conference. A continental breakfast and box lunch are also provided.

FRENCH COLONIAL
ZOMBIE FESTIVAL

Bolduc House Museum, 125 South Main Street

Find out what happens when the interpretive staff of the Bolduc House gets taken over by zombies. Assist in the historic preservation of the Louis Bolduc House by applying some new bousilliage. Play zombie versus human games, eat bloody some-mores, plant garlic, hunt for a loup garou (werewolf), and sing zombie karaoke.

Admission: Come dressed as a zombie and receive half-price admission.

DÉJÀ VU SPIRIT REUNION

Memorial Cemetery at Fifth and Merchant Streets

Experience more than twenty of Sainte Genevieve's notable and notorious of spirits in Missouri's oldest cemetery, the restored 1787 Memorial Cemetery. Costumed spirits will present Sainte Genevieve's past through stories and tales of mystery and amusement. This living history program of stories, traditions and nostalgia highlights the lives and personalities of notables such as U.S. Senator Lewis F. Linn, Felix and Odile Vallé, Marie LaPorte, Joseph Bogy, Ferdinand Rozier (local business partner of John James Audubon) and Col. St. Gemme. All proceeds benefit the Foundation for Restoration of Sainte Genevieve's Memorial Cemetery Restoration project.

$5 tickets Children ages 6-18 are $2.50, and children 5 and under are free.

CHRISTMAS ART SHOW & SALE

The Sainte Genevieve Art Guild sponsors this art show featuring area artists showing and selling their work. Cookies and Spiced Apple Cider are served throughout the weekend. A painting is raffled each year and there is a silent auction with the proceeds used to fund an art scholarship for a graduating senior. This year's painting is by Juanita Rapp Wyman.

CHRISTMAS FESTIVAL

FRENCH CHRISTMAS

This annual celebration highlights the music, customs, and decorations of an early French Colonial Christmas celebration known as "Le Reveillon." Costumed guides will explain the early 1800's French Christmas customs and the dining room will be filled with traditional foods, including bûche de Noël (yule log cake). Refreshments and period music will be provided.

LA GUIANNEE

Ste. Genevieve's Historic District
The old tradition of La Guiannée still survives in Sainte Genevieve. This ancient tradition, analogous to the English custom of Wassailing that harkens back to Europe's Middle Ages, is celebrated by descendants of those French settlers. Dressed in bizarre and somewhat archaic costumes, the revelers wander from place to place singing a beggars song for favors. You can see and participate with these singers and musicians as they celebrate this 250 year old tradition each New Year's Eve in the streets, cafes and pubs of old Sainte Genevieve's Historic District.

For over 250 years, the King’s Ball was the highlight Sainte Genevieve’s social season.  All are invited to continue that tradition and join in the merriment the King’s Ball. Guests are welcome to bring a basket of snacks for their enjoyment. A cash bar will be available for refreshments.  Everyone is encouraged but not required to dress in French Colonial costumes. There will be live entertainment and instructions in traditional dance. Persons of all ages can participate in this evening of dance and fun.

SCHOOL OF THE SOLDIER

Come and learn about French Colonial life including archaeological investigation of domestic life and the 1732 Fort de Chartres, the life of an18th  century indentured servant; an 18th Century Sunday Service, and music. There will be a French encampment and cannon salute and 18th century craft demonstrations. Lectures will be held on both days are at no cost and from 9:15 am to 12:15 pm at the Sainte Genevieve Welcome Center.

CIVIL WAR REENACTMENT

This biannual celebration of the American Civil War, the Sons of Union Veterans of the Civil War, Camp No. 326, are staging a reenactment of the war that will include a school day on May 3rd from 10 am to 2 pm. The Civil War encampment will be on display from Friday through Sunday. Saturday’s schedule will include artillery, cavalry, infantry drills & demonstrations; Pilot Knob Mountain Civil War Band, Ladies Fashion Show and Merchant Bank Reenactment. Sunday features include artillery, cavalry, & infantry demonstrations; bayonet drills, sharpshooting demonstration, and other Civil War exhibits.

Art Happens Here is a series of events sponsored by the Sainte Genevieve Art Guild and marks the 80th anniversary of the founding of the Sainte Genevieve Summer School of Art, an offshoot of the art colony established here in the 1930s. The school featured high-profile art instructors such as Thomas Hart Benton and Joe Jones. There will be weekend workshops featuring three of the Midwest’s most notable artists: Billyo O’Donnell, Dan Woodward and Bryan Haynes. Special forums on art topics also will be held, and the Guild will mount an exhibit of the works - some never before shown publicly - of Matthew Ziegler, a Sainte Genevieve native and one of the students in the original School of Art.

In honor of the Feast of St. Louis, The Bolduc House has set aside this annual celebration as time for members of Sainte Genevieve’s first families to gather and be honored. With lots of fun activities for everyone all weekend long, everyone is invited to meet members of the Bolduc, Pratte, and Valle extended families and slave descendants as well as members of the Shawnee, Delaware, and Osage tribes. There will be stories, music, activities, demonstrations, and your chance to participate in Family History, Oral History, and Living History. See what is new at the museum and enjoy the people who left such important legacies in the land. In addition, both days will feature a performance of Moliere’s School for Wives for an extra charge.
