Several galleries in Sainte Genevieve are offering the opportunity to view the art works of Sainte Genevieve area and regional artists with a variety of art forms that will offer something for everyone. Other retail businesses will also participate in the event by being open during the same hours. Refreshments will be served at various locations and maps are available at each location designating which galleries and studios are open.

SCHOOL OF THE SOLDIER

Moses Austin Grounds, Main and Gabouri Streets
Come and learn about French Colonial life including archaeological investigation of domestic life and the 1732 Fort de Chartres, the life of an18th  century indentured servant; an 18th Century Sunday Service, and music. There will be a French encampment and cannon salute and 18th century craft demonstrations. Lectures will be held on both days are at no cost and from 9:15 am to 12:15 pm at the Sainte Genevieve Welcome Center.

Art Happens Here is an series of events sponsored by the Sainte Genevieve Art Guild and marks the 80th anniversary of the founding of the Sainte Genevieve Summer School of Art, an offshoot of the art colony established here in the 1930s. The school featured high-profile art instructors such as Thomas Hart Benton and Joe Jones. There will be weekend workshops featuring three of the Midwest’s most notable artists: Billyo O’Donnell, Dan Woodward and Bryan Haynes. Special forums on art topics also will be held, and the Guild will mount an exhibit of the works - some never before shown publicly - of Matthew Ziegler, a Sainte Genevieve native and one of the students in the original School of Art..

FRENCH FESTIVAL

This French Heritage Festival celebrates the 300 years of French culture in America from Quebec to New Orleans and recognizes the greatest concentration of French Colonial architecture in North America that exists in Sainte Genevieve. There will be music, dance, French cuisine and other refreshments, wine tasting, reenactments, promenades, lectures, and French Colonial architecture tours.

FELIX VALLÉ OPEN HOUSE

The Sainte Genevieve County Fair includes a parade, livestock shows, demolition derby, horse show, truck pulls, tractor pulls, queen contest, 4H and FFA exhibits and a band on Friday night. There is a lot to see and do for adults and children all weekend with plenty of good food and entertainment.

TIGER DAY FESTIVAL

JOUR DE FETE

Held annually in the middle of August, this French cultural heritage event features and Arts & Crafts Show with nearly 200 booths of artists and colonial crafters. Special features include historical house tours, colonial crafts, antiques window displays, birds of prey, and antique farm equipment exhibit. The will be food, drink and entertainment both days.

LOUIS BOLDUC DAYS

Bolduc House, 125 South Main Street
In honor of the Feast of St. Louis, The Bolduc House has set aside this annual celebration as time for members of Sainte Genevieve’s first families to gather and be honored. With lots of fun activities for everyone all weekend long, everyone is invited to meet members of the Bolduc, Pratte, and Valle extended families and slave descendants as well as members of the Shawnee, Delaware, and Osage tribes. There will be stories, music, activities, demonstrations, and your chance to participate in Family History, Oral History, and Living History. See what is new at the museum and enjoy the people who left such important legacies in the land. In addition, both days will feature a performance of Moliere’s School for Wives for an extra charge.

PLEIN AIR PAINTING

DÉJÀ VU SPIRIT REUNION

Memorial Cemetery at Fifth and Merchant Streets

Experience more than twenty of Sainte Genevieve's notable and notorious of spirits in Missouri's oldest cemetery, the restored 1787 Memorial Cemetery. Costumed spirits will present Sainte Genevieve's past through stories and tales of mystery and amusement. This living history program of stories, traditions and nostalgia highlights the lives and personalities of notables such as U.S. Senator Lewis F. Linn, Felix and Odile Vallé, Marie LaPorte, Joseph Bogy, Ferdinand Rozier (local business partner of John James Audubon) and Col. St. Gemme. All proceeds benefit the Foundation for Restoration of Sainte Genevieve's Memorial Cemetery Restoration project.

$5 tickets Children ages 6-18 are $2.50, and children 5 and under are free.

Find out what happens when the interpretive staff of the Bolduc House gets taken over by zombies. Assist in the historic preservation of the Louis Bolduc House by applying some new bousilliage. Play zombie versus human games, eat bloody some-mores, plant garlic, hunt for a loup garou (werewolf), and sing zombie karaoke.

Admission: Come dressed as a zombie and receive half-price admission.

LA GUIANNEE

Ste. Genevieve's Historic District
The old tradition of La Guiannée still survives in Sainte Genevieve. This ancient tradition, analogous to the English custom of Wassailing that harkens back to Europe's Middle Ages, is celebrated by descendants of those French settlers. Dressed in bizarre and somewhat archaic costumes, the revelers wander from place to place singing a beggars song for favors. You can see and participate with these singers and musicians as they celebrate this 250 year old tradition each New Year's Eve in the streets, cafes and pubs of old Sainte Genevieve's Historic District.

For over 250 years, the King’s Ball was the highlight Sainte Genevieve’s social season.  All are invited to continue that tradition and join in the merriment the King’s Ball. Guests are welcome to bring a basket of snacks for their enjoyment. A cash bar will be available for refreshments.  Everyone is encouraged but not required to dress in French Colonial costumes. There will be live entertainment and instructions in traditional dance. Persons of all ages can participate in this evening of dance and fun.
