One of the largest in rendezvous events in the country occurs annually at this historic fort. 18th century crafts, food, music, 1000's of historically dressed participants, flintlock musket and rifle competition, cannon and mortar competition, traders and more.

Creole House

The Randolph County Historical Society will conduct guided tours of the Creole House, a 19th century home with French American transitional architecture that is listed on the National Register of Historic Places. The Creole House is only a two block detour for visitors attending the Rendezvous at Fort de Chartres.

LIBERTY BELL
OF THE WEST
CELEBRATION

Kaskaskia Bell State Historic Site

This annual celebration takes place at the site of the Liberty Bell of the West, which was rung when
Rogers Clark and his Long Knives captured Kaskaskia on July 4, 1778. A ceremony starts at 12:30 with speakers and the French Colonial Marines from nearby Fort de Chartres. The celebration also features live music, food and other refreshments, and the Church of the Immaculate Conception will be open for tours.

ANNUAL CORN FEST

Charter Oak Schoolhouse, 9272 Schuline Road
This annual festival benefits the Charter Oak Schoolhouse. There will be large kettles of homegrown sweet corn, delicious Indian Pudding, fried chicken and home grown vegetables. This event also features a country market and craft sale, live music, and tours of the schoolhouse. Sponsored by Randolph County Historical Society.

Since 1998 Sparta has hosted this annual blues festival featuring local and regional musicians on a pavilion stage overlooking a lawn with plenty of shade. Food and beverages are available on the grounds. Be sure to bring blankets and chairs.

POPEYE'S PICNIC
Chester, IL
September 5 - September 8, 2008
The annual Popeye's Picnic is always held the first weekend following Labor Day. This year's event will celebrate the 75th anniversary of Popeye starting on Friday afternoon and features plenty of food, music, dancing, sporting events and other contests, a parade is held on Saturday morning and a sizeable fireworks display is the finale on Sunday evening. The event is centered around the downtown area of Chester, but activities are held throughout the town.
