ANNUAL FORT DE CHARTRES
RENDEZVOUS

Prairie du Rocher, IL

Fort De Chartres, 4 miles west of Prairie du Rocher on IL-155
One of the largest in rendezvous events in the country occurs annually at this historic fort. 18th century crafts, food, music, 1000's of historically dressed participants, flintlock musket and rifle competition, cannon and mortar competition, traders and more.

HISTORICAL SOCIETY
OPEN HOUSE

Creole House, Market Street
The Randolph County Historical Society will conduct guided tours of the Creole House, a 19th century home with French American transitional architecture that is listed on the National Register of Historic Places. The Creole House is only a two block detour for visitors attending the Rendezvous at Fort de Chartres.

LIBERTY BELL OF THE
WEST CELEBRATION
Kaskaskia, IL

Kaskaskia Bell State Historic Site

This annual celebration takes place at the site of the Liberty Bell of the West, which was rung when
Rogers Clark and his Long Knives captured Kaskaskia on July 4, 1778. A ceremony starts at 12:30 with speakers and the French Colonial Marines from nearby Fort de Chartres. The celebration also features live music, food and other refreshments, and the Church of the Immaculate Conception will be open for tours.

RANDOLPH COUNTY FAIR
Sparta, IL

Randolph County Fair Grounds, West Belmont Street
This fair features special events, variety of foods, parade, 4H, livestock, and agricultural exhibits. Special events scheduled are Friday (12th):-Craft Fair at 6 pm; Saturday (13th): 4h small animal judging and open horse show at1 pm; Sunday (14th): 4 wheeler pull and lawn mower pull at 1 pm; Monday (15th): 4h horse show at 6 pm; Tuesday (16th) - 4h livestock auction at 7 pm; Friday (19th): tractor and truck pull at 7 pm; Saturday (20th): - mud bog at 7 pm.
Free parking and entry to the fairgrounds, admission charged for the special events.

ANNUAL CORN FEST

This annual festival benefits the Charter Oak Schoolhouse. There will be large kettles of homegrown sweet corn, delicious Indian Pudding, fried chicken and home grown vegetables. POPEYE'S PICNIC
Chester, IL

The annual Popeye's Picnic is always held the first weekend following Labor Day. As always the event starts on Friday afternoon and features plenty of food, music, dancing, sporting events and other contests. A parade is held on Saturday morning and a sizeable fireworks display is the finale on Sunday evening. The event is centered around the downtown area of Chester, but activities are held throughout the town.

Run or walk on your course under the rock bluffs after the autumn sun sinks into the muddy Mississippi. Your journey begins near the grounds of the Historic Brickey property and Creole House. The resident spirits will see you off as the torch lit road takes you past the darkened tunnels of the quarry. This 5K Competitive Run {& 5k Run/ Walk) & 1mi. walk/run Monster Dash Great fun for friends and family. Proceeds benefit S.H.A.R.E.D (Supporting History, the Arts, and Resources for Educational Development).

TOUR DE BLUFFS BIKE RIDE

Starting and ending at Prairie du Rocherís  Village Park this ride features a choice of scenic "rider friendly" routes of 12, 25 or 42 miles with rest stops on all of the routes with fluids, fruit and surprise snacks. There will be detailed maps available the day of ride. Proceeds to benefit preservation of 19th Century Creole House located in the heart of historic Prairie du Rocher.

FETE AT THE FORT

Come join the fun and be a part of the annual Fete at The Fort at Historic Fort de Chartres. This is a perfect opportunity to sample what brewers will be showcasing in a unique 18th Century environment. The first 1500 attendees will receive a commemorative Fort de Chartres sampling glass to enjoy beer samples from participating breweries. All of this taking place at a French fort with 18th century reenactors- natives, French Marines, British soldiers, Cannon crews, Fife and Drum Corps, and Bagpipe groups to name a few! Hot Dogs, Brats, water, and soft drinks will be available in the food court. Proceeds benefit the Save Illinois History foundation which supports the Historic Sites of Illinois.

Sparta is home to a variety of holiday activities throughout the day. An Arts and Crafts Fair can be found at Sparta Park on West Belmont Street from 9 am to 4 pm. The Howell Holiday Hustle Run starts at 5:15 pm. The Lighted Christmas Parade begins at 6 pm and starts at the Sparta High School and runs through the downtown area. Immediately following the Parade there will be free chili and entertainment at the Sparta VFW at 1911 North Market Street and kids will be able to visit with Santa. At 8pm there will be a firework show.

Kaskaskia River Recreation Area, 4800 Lock and Dam Road
Come out for eagle-watching with spotting scopes and meet some of the feathered inhabitants of the World Bird Sanctuary (9 am to noon)! Also, enjoy short interpreted walks both upstream and downstream from the Dam, and see the confluence of the Mississippi & Kaskaskia Rivers. Our experts will be on hand to tell you about other eagle-nesting sites nearby! Families and leash-trained dogs are welcome for the hike. Tours of lock and dam and kid's activities are also featured.
A suggested donation of $5/person is asked to cover lunch expenses. Please reserve your spot by Feb. 1, 2012 so we can account for the number of lunches.

Members of the Illinois State Archeological Society encourage everybody in the community to come out and learn more about our local prehistoric past at this annual show. There will be a flintknapper doing educational demonstrations throughout the day. Visitors are encouraged to bring their collections of arrowheads or axes to learn more about their history. There will be over 60 exhibitors with tables full of locally found artifacts on display, as well as a great exhibit of Historic Fort de Chartres related items from the times of the French and Indian wars. Some dealers will also be on hand and they will be looking to buy and sell Native American artifacts.
