BIRDING THE BOTTOMLANDS
Rockwood & Ellis Grove, IL

Rockwood Levee and Fort Kaskaskia Historic Site
Birding the Bottomlands where beginners to knowledgeable birders of all ages can some experience migratory songbirds in their most vibrant colors. Ten locations on the Rockwood Levee will be staffed for visitors to watch from 6 am -10 am with an after-party from 11 am - 2 pm at Fort Kaskaskia Historic Site. There will be free cake, informational tables and a presentation of live birds of prey by Free Again. Food will be available for purchase. The event is presented by area state and city organizations and Audubon societies.

RENDEZVOUS

One of the largest in rendezvous events in the country occurs annually at this historic fort. 18th century crafts, food, music, 1000's of historically dressed participants, flintlock musket and rifle competition, cannon and mortar competition, traders and more.

Creole House
The Randolph County Historical Society will conduct guided tours of the Creole House, a 19th century home with French American transitional architecture that is listed on the National Register of Historic Places. The Creole House is only a two block detour for visitors attending the Rendezvous at Fort de Chartres.

RIVER CITY FEST

Sunday: 12 pm – 4 pm

This event features a wide variety of artisans, crafters and the wares for sale. There will also be a tent for children to make a Take-Home craft and a special appearance by 'Coco the Clown'. A selection of fruit and cheese plates, cold drinks and coffee will be available. Music will be provided on both days. In addition to the events at the Cohen Home, The Stone House B&B will host a wine tasting and Moof's Bar and Grill will host a BBQ Cook Off on Saturday. Fanciful Finishes has an open house.

LIBERTY BELL OF THE
WEST CELEBRATION

Kaskaskia Bell State Historic Site

This annual celebration takes place at the site of the Liberty Bell of the West, which was rung when
Rogers Clark and his Long Knives captured Kaskaskia on July 4, 1778. A ceremony starts at 12:30 with speakers and the French Colonial Marines from nearby Fort de Chartres. The celebration also features live music, food and other refreshments, and the Church of the Immaculate Conception will be open for tours.

This annual festival benefits the Charter Oak Schoolhouse. There will be large kettles of homegrown sweet corn, delicious Indian Pudding, fried chicken and home grown vegetables. POPEYE'S PICNIC

The annual Popeye's Picnic is always held the first weekend following Labor Day. As always the event starts on Friday afternoon and features plenty of food, music, dancing, sporting events and other contests. A parade is held on Saturday morning and a sizeable fireworks display is the finale on Sunday evening. The event is centered around the downtown area of Chester, but activities are held throughout the town.

Come join the fun and be a part of the annual Fete at The Fort at Historic Fort de Chartres. This is a perfect opportunity to sample what brewers will be showcasing in a unique 18th Century environment. The first 1500 attendees will receive a commemorative Fort de Chartres sampling glass to enjoy beer samples from participating breweries. All of this taking place at a French fort with 18th century reenactors- natives, French Marines, British soldiers, Cannon crews, Fife and Drum Corps, and Bagpipe groups to name a few! Hot Dogs, Brats, water, and soft drinks will be available in the food court. Proceeds benefit the Save Illinois History foundation which supports the Historic Sites of Illinois.
