The Scenic Route into Jerseyville from Alton
greatriverroad.com suggests the following routes into Jerseyville once you get to Alton. Although these routes are longer they avoid the stop and go traffic of Alton and Godfrey and reward the traveler with some spectacular scenery. Once you get to downtown Alton take Illinois Route 100 north to the river town of Grafton. This stretch of Route 100 parallels the limestone bluffs on the banks of the Mississippi River and is characterized by roadside wildflowers in the warmer seasons, brilliant fall foliage, and Bald Eagles in the winter. This stretch is also part of both the Great River Road network and the Meeting of the Great Rivers Scenic Byway. Once in Grafton, take Illinois 3 South to Illinois 109 and follow Illinois 109 North into downtown Jerseyville. Another option once travelers reach Grafton is to continue on Illinois 100 past Pere Marquette State Park and take Illinois 16 East into downtown Jerseyville. From downtown Jerseyville take US 67 North to Hazel Dell, home to the Jersey County Victorian Festival and the Fulkerson Mansion and Farm Museum. Hazel Dell is approximately 1 mile north of Jerseyville's city limits.
