The historic boardwalk dates back to the 1890s and has become an affordable place for artists from Southern Illinois University and the surrounding areas to create and display their quality handcrafted work.
“Downtown” Makanda and the Makanda Boardwalk is a block of storefronts dating from the 1890s has been saved, restored, and currently provides shop space for local artisans and craftspeople.
